Brighton boss Graham Potter has refused to give supporters any assurances that Yves Bissouma would remain on the south coast this summer and says the Seagulls must make ‘good decisions’ for the best interests of the club.
Bissouma, 24, has been Brighton’s standout performer this term and the Mali international has attracted attention from Liverpool and Arsenal for his displays from defensive midfield.
Brighton reportedly value the midfielder at around £40million and in a time of financial uncertainty, such a fee would likely cover the Seagulls’ spending next summer.
Bissouma is understandably keen to test himself at the highest level by playing European football and Potter refused to confirm the midfielder would stay this summer after yesterday’s defeat to Arsenal.
Asked if he could give assurances about Bissouma’s future, Potter said: ‘Not really. He’s contract with us. As far as I know he’s going to report to pre-season like everyone else.
‘But it’s football. Like anything, in the summer we have to make some good decisions and improve the football club.’
Gini Wijnaldum confirmed after yesterday’s win against Crystal Palace that he will leave the club this summer.
The Dutchman looks set to join Barcelona and Klopp is keen to sign a replacement for the energetic former Newcastle midfielder.
Dani Ceballos is set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season when his loan expires, while Arsenal are unsure if they can sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal.
