Chris Eubank Jr was left howling with laughter after watching Billy Joe Saunders stopped by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez – a result that saw the middleweight claim a winning £10,000 bet.
Saunders lost his WBO super-middleweight title after a TKO defeat to Canelo in their unification showdown in Arlington, Texas.
Canelo connected with a devastating uppercut midway through the eighth round with his corner ending the fight before the ninth.
The Briton was seen leaving the AT&T Stadium in an ambulance to receive treatment on a suspected fractured orbital bone.
Saunders and Eubank Jr share a bitter rivalry dating back to their 2014 meeting that saw the former claim a points win.
In the days leading up to fight night, Eubank Jr backed Canelo to secure the win by knockout or technical knockout, with his £10,000 stake giving him the chance to double his money.
Watching the fight come to an end, Eubank Jr laughed as his bet came in, calling Saunders a ‘wetbag’ as he celebrated with his pals.
Eubank Jr also had a message for Canelo in the aftermath of his win, writing on Twitter: ‘Canelo if you want a Brit to give you a real fight… I’m ready and waiting’.
In his post-fight interview, Canelo said he felt the damage he had inflicted on Saunders, insisting he knew the fight was over at that point.
‘I knew it, I think I broke his cheek and I knew he would not come out,’ Canelo told DAZN. ‘I told his corner he would not come out because I broke his cheek.’
